Escandalo: Tell me about Dan. What was he like as a kid?
Susan: He was a comedian. I forget what grade he was voted
class clown. He's still a character!
He's a character alright...his band is really goofy.
Yes, I've only seen them once, but that was enough.
Do you listen to their music at all?
No. Not at all. I like some alternative but I dunno, it's
not my type -- I like rock. So does his father. And his father
also really likes jazz.
You don't think they're very rocking?
Oh, I guess so (laughs). My husband saw them in Philly and
he couldn't believe he was tapping to the beat! He said they
had really improved in the last couple years. The first time
we saw them we said "what is this?!?" (laughs)
Has Dan been in bands a long time?
When he was 16 we had a barn and he practiced with a bunch
of kids, so he's always been into rock.
What kind of music did you listen to around the house?
Jazz, I guess ...
And rock and ... oh I can't think of the other term. My
husband will still go and hear rock somewhere. He enjoys it.
Was Dan a boy scout?
Yeah, he was a cub scout but he didn't go any further than
that. In fact I was a den mother but I couldn't take it because
he was always standing on the table! The other kids were really
well-behaved and he'd be hanging from the ceiling (laughs).
He was always trying to get attention. I guess he still is.
In school he drove his teachers crazy. He's very very smart
and teachers would be floored by that at first, but when he
started his antics they didn't care anymore. He didn't belong
in the public school system. There must have been some special
school somewhere where he could've excelled.
How would you describe Bunny Brains?
Loud. It's just loud. We heard it a few years ago and we
couldn't hear the tune. I guess they don't use that word ("tune")
anymore. "Melody," whatever...
Is there something you think Bunny Brains fans should
know about Dan that they might not know otherwise?
Well, he's a very warm, giving person. I don't know whether
they need to know that, but he is! He'd do anything for anybody.
Of course, he'd probably expect something in return (laughs).
He'd go out of his way to help someone. He just needs to realize
a way to make a living.
