R.L. BURNSIDE

A Ass Pocket O' Whiskey LP/CD

(a co-release with Fat Possum Records)

A Ass Pocket Full of Whiskey Long time share cropper, purveyor of fine moonshine, father of 14 children, RL Burnside, truly one of the last 'real life' delta blues musicians is for some reason now making his Matador debut. In his mid-sixties, this is RL's fifth album of electric blues reminiscent of that of such diverse characters as Robert Johnson, Robert Pete Williams, Mississippi John Hurt, John Lee Hooker, Jr Kimbrough etc etc. Usually backed up by his sons and cousins when playing the many juke joints in the Delta area, this time RL Burnside is accompanied by a hard edge bass-less boogie trio from New York City not lacking in authenticity. RL has been playing the blues for over 50 years and taught himself how to play the guitar. He is a legend in Holly Springs, Ms, around where he was born and presently lives in a trailer since his house burned down a few moons ago.
